Onno Dirker – visual artist.

d.o.b. in 1965, lives and works in The Hague (NL).

Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

Onno Dirker works on projects concerning the layout of landscape and urban space. Intensive observation, inventory and showing reality is always the starting point. Especially with an interest in social processes this leads to improvements, interventions and solutions for future use. The method at start is phenomenological: conduct research from a cultural perspective and with an «unfocused view», without predetermined criteria or guidelines.

In 2003 he co-founded «Atelier Veldwerk». This studio plays an idiosyncratic, highly analytical role within the broad field that lies between landscape architecture and art in public space. A strong cultural-historical attention and knowledge of flora, fauna and ecology leads to analysis, proposals, designs and interventions that are strongly linked to the local context and the landscape. The dialogue between the environment and the user is considered of great importance.

Besides reports, publications, film, performances, installations and exhibitions, work is realized in the form of sculptures, monuments, landscape design, urban design, gardens and parks.
